Almost Human: The First Trilogy: Fatual Infatuation - Melanie Nowak

Synopsis:
In this witty paranormal adventure/romance, each chapter alternates perspective between an elder vampire and a young human girl as they navigate the difficulties of addiction and desire; the perils of zombies and vampires; and struggles with abuse, morality and... college.
Volume 1: FATAL INFATUATION -
Felicity is quiet, shy and prone to self doubt. Going away to college is an opportunity to mature into a confident young woman; but her new beginning turns out to be more of an adventure than she bargained for when she finds that her new school is plagued not by bullies, but vampires!
Cain is a man who displays quiet confidence and inner strength even as he struggles to overcome the sins of his past. Centuries ago he was reborn as a creature of the night - a vampire. Surprisingly he found that in losing his life he gained his faith and a purpose. His mission: find the hostile vampires who have settled in this small college town, and educate them to live in peace with humans. Their leader, Sindy is a wicked temptress who has set her sights on Felicity's new friend Ben, and will be difficult to control; but after meeting Felicity, Cain's most difficult task lies in controlling himself.

My Opinion:
For all you vampire lovers this is a book for you!
It has all the great elements of a great story, complete with romance, suspense and drama. It seemed to have the right touch of everything for me.
I liked the flow of the author's writing as well. Every page seemed connected and often that is not the case. This book is nicely done.
I am surely to recommend this one to all paranormal junkies, don't be put off by the cover. I wasn't fond of it either, but the cover doesn't make the story.

My Opinion:
I love these hand towels!
They are super absorbent and work better per sheet than one regular towel sheet. I personally just kept my on the counter, but I see the benefits of using a towel rack, if in the bathroom. I used mine in the kitchen, since I wash my hands a lot in there.
Definitely going to be my new towel for the future, and one I will surely recommend time and time again!

My Opinion:
I made a pasta dish, though seasoned in a way I have not had before. Living with an Italian, I love trying any new pasta dishes I can find, and this suited my tastes.
I'm so glad I tried it.
The chicken flavor with the cheese tortellini is really delicious. I am so surprised not only that I like it, but my the brood loves it too!
And here, I was worried it would end up in the dog's bowl.
I am sure to use this cookbook quite often, and see what other surprises I can find.

DK's Everything Romance Books

My Opinion:
This story couldn't come out at a better time, right around Halloween, the scariest time of year. This was one scary book, but not so scary you couldn't keep reading. I found myself just flowing through the pages, needing to know what happened to Sam, the lead character.
So lasting impression on this one is really, really good.
I've had a bad run with reading lately and was so happy this story took me out of that slump. Thank you for good writing Roxanne!
Highly recommend to all you suspense junkies out there!

A Thread of Sky - Deanna Fei

Synopsis:
Looking to reconnect with their ancestral home and with one another, three generations of women tour mainland China on a journey that will change their family forever.
A stunning debut, A Thread of Sky is the story of a family of six fiercely independent women and the powerful thread that binds their lives.
When her husband of thirty years is killed in a devastating accident, Irene Shen and her three daughters are set adrift. Nora, the eldest, retreats into her high-powered New York job and a troubled relationship. Kay, the headstrong middle child, escapes to China to learn the language and heritage of her parents. Sophie, the sensitive and artistic youngest, is trapped at home until college, increasingly estranged from her family—and herself. Terrified of being left alone with her grief, Irene plans a tour of mainland China’s must-sees, reuniting three generations of women—her three daughters, her distant poet sister, and her formidable eighty-year-old mother—in a desperate attempt to heal her fractured family.
If only it were so easy. Each woman arrives bearing secrets big and small, and as they travel—visiting untouched sections of the Great Wall and the seedy bars of Shanghai, the beautiful ancient temples and cold, modern shopping emporiums—they begin to wonder if they will ever find the China they seek, the one their family fled long ago.
Over days and miles they slowly find their way toward a new understanding of themselves, of one another, and of the vast complexity of their homeland, only to have their new bonds tested as never before when the darkest, most carefully guarded secret of all spirals to the surface and threatens to tear their family apart forever.
A Thread of Sky is a beautifully written and deeply haunting story about love and sacrifice, history and memory, sisterhood and motherhood, and the connections that endure.

My Opinion:
This was a well written novel though I found myself only half interested while reading it. I loved the author's choice of words, but wasn't always fond of the story I was reading.
The whole book was a mix of these feelings.
So maybe not my favorite read, but one I am sure women's lit fans will love!

My Opinion:
I love this cookbook, and let me assure you it's not just baking. There is all kinds of different dishes to make. I went through the whole recipe book, and was hard-pressed between 2 recipes, the one I chose and Clinton St. Burgers. I'm so glad I chose the cookies, they are a hit, though I aim to still try those burgers!
The cookies were amazing! They tasted more like shortbread to me, and my whole family loved them. When I first said maple walnut, I got lots of grumbling. After they were baked and cooled, my family went nuts and they were devoured in less than 24 hours.
For sure a solid recommendation from me to any household, as long as you can follow instruction, you can cook!

My Opinion:
This is a book you really can't judge by it's cover.
Honestly, I thought the cover was a little lame, but the description had me lured in. I'm so glad I read this book, it gave me what I look for in a good thriller.
I have to admit, it was a little slow to start, but once it got moving it was so exciting. I had to know what happened next.
There is some sensitive parts in this book, so it's not for the faint of heart.
Definitely one I think everyone should read, especially now with Halloween around the corner. It'll give you a spook here and there.

My Opinion:
This is one of my favorite picture books for so many reasons, the first being nostalgia. I have loved Snoopy, Charlie Brown and Schroeder my whole life plus the rest of the gang too, so seeing this book immediately appealed to my curiosity. I didn't think there was much I could learn about it, and after reading it I was very wrong.
I learned a lot not only about the comic strip and its characters, but about the man who drew it all, Mr. Schultz. He was very comedic in his natural way, and just having conversations or writing from him, you would laugh. He had a deep love for his family, and even more so than his work. With as many comics as he pumps out, I would figure him a man never at home, or at least unavailable, and again not so.
There is so much more, but I already blabbed too much and may have spoiled something. I apologize ahead of time, this book just made me excited.
Definitely one to get, for the kid in all of us.

Karen Essex - Dracula In Love

Synopsis:
From the shadowy banks of the river Thames to the wild and windswept Yorkshire coast, Dracula’s eternal muse, Mina Murray, vividly recounts the intimate details of what really transpired between her and the Count—the joys and terrors of a passionate affair that has linked them through the centuries, and her rebellion against her own frightening preternatural powers.
Mina’s version of this gothic vampire tale is a visceral journey into Victorian England’s dimly lit bedrooms, mist-filled cemeteries, and asylum chambers, revealing the dark secrets and mysteries locked within. Time falls away as she is swept into a mythical journey far beyond mortal comprehension, where she must finally make the decision she has been avoiding for almost a millennium.
Bram Stoker’s classic novel offered one side of the story, in which Mina had no past and bore no responsibility for the unfolding events. Now, for the first time, the truth of Mina’s personal voyage, and of vampirism itself, is revealed. What this flesh and blood woman has to say is more sensual, more devious, and more enthralling than the Victorians could have expressed or perhaps even have imagined.

The Twelfth Imam - Joel C. Rosenberg (TOUR)

Synopsis:
As the apocalyptic leaders of Iran call for the annihilation of Israel and the U.S., CIA operative David Shirazi is sent into Tehran with one objective: use all means necessary to disrupt Iran’s nuclear weapons program, without leaving American fingerprints and without triggering a regional war. At extreme personal risk, Shirazi executes his plan.
A native Farsi speaker whose family escaped from Iran in 1979, he couldn’t be better prepared for the mission. But none of his training has prepared Shirazi for what will happen next. An obscure religious cleric is suddenly hailed throughout the region as the Islamic messiah known as the Mahdi or the Twelfth Imam. News of his miracles, healings, signs, and wonders spreads like wildfire, as do rumors of a new and horrific war.
With the prophecy of the Twelfth Imam seemingly fulfilled, Iran’s military prepares to strike Israel and bring about the End of Days. Shirazi must take action to save his country and the world, but the clock is ticking.

My Opinion:
I knew by the title this would be an interesting read, but I had no idea as to what capacity my attention would be grabbed. I was pulled in so deep to this story I found myself reading it every chance I could get.
I loved reading this author's style of writing. His fluid language kept it easy to keep up with what was going on at all times. When you deal with subject and places foreign to you, sometimes it can be harder to digest, but not this story. I have to admit though, I am glad this is just fiction and not actually happening.
With that said, any political junkies, mystery lovers, or people who have a keen interest in Jihad, should check this out.
I really enjoyed it.

Low Red Moon - Ivy Devlin

Synopsis:
The only thing Avery Hood can remember about the night her parents died is that she saw silver—deadly silver, moving inhumanly fast. As much as she wants to remember who killed them, she can't, and there's nothing left to do but try to piece her life back together. Then Avery meets the new boy in school—Ben, mysterious and beautiful, with whom she feels a connection like nothing she's ever experienced. When Ben reveals he's a werewolf, Avery still trusts him—at first. Then she sees that sometimes his eyes flash inhuman silver. And she learns that she's not the only one who can't remember the night her parents died.Part murder mystery, part grief narrative, and part heart-stopping, headlong romance, Low Red Moon is a must-read for teen paranormal fans. As breathless as Twilight and as spooky as Shiver, this is a book to be devoured in one sitting—by an acclaimed YA author making her paranormal debut under the pseudonym Ivy Devlin.

My Opinion:
This book was a nice, refreshing afternoon read, though my lasting impression is this is basically what life would be like if it was just Jacob and Bella. No Edward.
It has a nice mix of romance, mystery, suspense and drama to keep you interested to the end, just wasn't surprised by any of it.
Still definitely one teenagers would especially love.

My Opinion:
I love this product!
I don't think it rewinds any age, but it is the same as using cover up though without the mess. Now the Age Rewind Eraser has an applicator attached that makes it easier for applying.
It does cover very nice and lasts all day.
I highly recommend this to women who have black circles, or fine lines or even skin differences they wish to cover. It works!

My Opinion:
I'm fascinated by the 2012 phenomenon, so when I saw this book I had to read it. I had no idea whether it would give better insight into the Mayan calendar, but I was hopeful.
Unfortunately this book just didn't do it for me.
I was finding I had to push myself pretty hard to even finish it. The writing is not what I like, at times you had no idea who was part of the conversation. It was pretty scattered in the way of keeping my interest. The worst thing for me, is I have no better understanding or even interest in the Mayan calendar now. This story which I believe is purely fictional just killed it for me.
Sorry folks, but I wouldn't go looking for an adventure here.
The only thing I really liked was at the beginning of each chapter was a Mayan symbol and description of what it meant. That was neat and will stick in my mind.

James Patterson - 7th Heaven

Synopsis:
At the start of the gripping seventh Women's Murder Club thriller from bestseller Patterson and Paetro (after 2007's The 6th Target), San Francisco is still haunted by the disappearance of Michael Campion, the much-adored teenage son of a former California governor, three months earlier. Following up on a tip that Michael was last seen entering a prostitute's house, homicide inspector Lindsay Boxer and her new partner, Rich Conklin, are shocked when the hooker immediately confesses that Michael, who had a heart defect, died during sex and she disposed of his body. Lindsay's ADA pal, Yuki Castellano, is sure she has a slam-dunk case, but the trial soon takes a bizarre turn. Lindsay and Rich also scramble to track down a serial arsonist responsible for murdering a string of wealthy couples. Lindsay races to put the pieces together before the fires hit too close to home. In true Patterson style, the reader is privy to Lindsay's thoughts as well as the killers', ratcheting up the suspense an extra notch. Fans won't be disappointed with the twist at the end that not even Lindsay sees coming.
